Pug

         The Pug is a toy dog with a wrinkly, short-muzzled face, and curled tail.  The other names are Carlin, Mops, Chinese Pug Dog. They are popular pets in Thailand that can found at all region in Thailand. This breed originated in China. So, the Pug are popular pets in Thailand because they are alert, pretty and sometime they make stupid face.

Appearance

The Pug is a small, stocky, square, thickset dog. The round head is massive with a short, blunt, square shaped muzzle. Moles on the cheeks are considered beauty spots. The teeth meet in a slight undershot bite. The very large, prominent eyes are dark. The small, thin ears are either rose or button shaped. The face has large, deep wrinkles. The high set tail is curled over the back and a double curl is preferred in the show ring. The short coat is soft, fine and smooth. Coat colors come in apricot, fawn, black and silver. The height are about male 12-14 inches (30-36 cm.) and female 10-12 inches (25-30 cm.). The weight are about male 13-20 pounds (6-9kg.) and female 13-18 pounds (6-8kg.). The life spans are about 12 to 15 years.

Temperament and Living conditions 

    The Pug is keen, with a happy-go-lucky attitude. Animated, peppy and spirited, they are loyal, loving and affectionate with their families. The Pug is good for apartment life. It is relatively inactive indoors and will do okay without a yard. Cannot withstand hot or cold weather and should be kept indoors at a comfortable temperature.

Health Problems

    The Pug is stressed by hot and cold weather. They are prone to allergies and chronic breathing problems because the short muzzle. Prone to skin problems because they have moles on the cheeks and humid temperature in Thailand may be lead to skin problem more than dry temperature. Pone to Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE), There is a chance of keratites (inflammation of the cornea) and ulcers on the cornea because very large, prominent eyes lead to easier dry eyes that affect to cornea problem.

P.S. Dams usually have to have cesarean sections due to the size of the pups heads.

      General appearance are medium size dog. square structure, vigorous muscle and have active movement. Behavior are alert, confident, fearless, honest, clever, agile and can train it. 

• Shape are thick and muscular when standing, the legs are vertical to the ground and erect the neck and the face.
• Head is large that proper to the body. Bridge of the nose has slight angle.
• Black nose that proper to the body
• Mouth is medium length and slender
• Teeth are small and sharp.

 

• Eyes are small and same almond seed. 

 

• Ears are forward, triangle that proper to the body and have soft hair at base and behind of the ears.  

 

• Neck is large, muscular and have mane.
• Back is straight.
• Chest is broad and deep.
• Hip is large, strong and has hair at this to hock joint.

 

• large base of tail, bunch hair and tip of tail curve to back.

 

• Front legs large than hind legs when standing are straight and parallel and joint are slightly oblique angle. Behind the legs have long hair.
• Round paws and have long hair cover the paws.

 

• Medium length with 2 layers of hair that inner layer are soft hair and outer layer are large and straight.
